Is their an amazing area to rent a cabin for the summer season? I'd like to take my dog with me to Alaska and experience a summer working? Any advice? Looking into Denali from now until October 2014.

I doubt there are any cabins to rent right at the park entrance area, so you'll need to have a car and most likely live in Healy, a few miles to the north. From what I've heard, cabins are hard to come by there too in summer.. I think most people who come up to work in the park live in the communal employee housing their first summer (no dogs I'm sure) and then 'know somebody who knows somebody' who can secure a cabin for them if they come back for subsequent summers.

Other options: you could potentially live in Cantwell, but it's almost 30 miles each way from the park entrance. The most beautiful commute you'll ever have though.. Talkeetna is not really near the park itself, but does have a park service ranger station and plenty of other summer jobs, plus lots of cabins. And of course there are lots of other places in Alaska to get a summer job and live in a cabin.

You are probably right, Heathen.

Something else: if the OP is referring to working at Denali park, more than likely she can't have a dog with her while at the park.

I wish you luck. Us dog lovers sacrifice a lot in life to be able to have our furry friends. When I was young it seemed like such a struggle to find a place to live with a dog. It always worked out, though. Seems like maybe a housemate situation with a fenced yard would be ideal. You could cut down on costs and your dog would be happy.
