Back to the $2000 comment...yeah, I just wouldn't recommend that amount. I am assuming if you had that amount of money once you got to your location, possibly, but with the economy the shape it is in, I'd pass.

oh yea I don't doubt that it would be foolish without a job, just trying to find out how to go about getting a job over there in the first place

I moved up here on a pretty depleted bank account, but I already had a solid job lined up (with a signed employment contract), owned a reliable vehicle, and had housing pre-arranged.

I think one really either needs to have their ducks in a row, or have a bunch of savings. Playing it by ear without a financial cushion is a good way to end up stranded.

The answer to that question hasn't changed since you asked it around six months ago, sorry. I'd seriously look at Canada if I were you.

Normally when I want a job, I apply for one.

Exactly. We depleted my retirement plan when we moved up here. Seriously. It sucked. But we did have two jobs and housing.

The poster is not a U.S. citizen, which kind of complicates his situation. He can still apply for H2b jobs, but that's not a track to citizenship.

You really need to see an immigration lawyer, OP.
