Hello Denz79

Please don't take it personally that folks sometimes seem a bit snippish about the "I'm moving to city X and please tell me everything about it" postings. The problem is that basically EVERYONE drops that line as their first post on the forum and the long-time readers all start thinking "another one? didn't I just answer that question like that a dozen times already?"

The best bet is to use the "search" function along the top blue bar, and read the most recent posts on the topic of "Juneau", for example. Once you see which users seem to know the most about it, you can click on their names and see all their past posts which usually also leads to more information. In short order you'll be inundated with some really good, on-topic postings from (hopefully) not too long ago, along with the unavoidable extranious errata that you've gotta sort through. With any luck, you'll come out the other end somewhat sleep-deprived but with a basic working knowledge and ready to ask some more detailed questions which folks are usually much better at answering.

It beats bashing the initial question on the head over and over hoping that someone will take pity on you and re-hash the last conversation they just had on the subject.

Of course this IS a relocation forum, so I guess we've gotta expect a certain amount of repetition on the subject, but you've gotta help out by doing the basic research first.

On a more personal note, I live about five hours ferry-ride north of Juneau and have been there a couple of times. I can tell you that they DO have the following as far as the basic generic commercial/retail amenities go:

Home Depot
Costco
Wally-mart

They've also got several other stores including a big Fred Meyers (grocery/department/general retail) a couple of smaller malls(one with a kids play place), and a variety of fast-food place including the toddlers mecca, a McDonalds with an indoor playland.

On the non-shopping side, the pool at the high-school is great for the kids (MUCH warmer than ours here), and they've got a huge, new outdoor play area/park that'll be great for the summertime. Of course there's also the usual SE Alaska assortment of glaciers, majestic mountains, scenic ocean views, whales, stunning sport-fishing, multiple packed marinas, thousands of boats and grossly overpriced real-estate.

And rain, lots and lot of rain.
Did I mention it rains there a lot?
