I hardly saw any, and we were there almost three weeks. But at a rest area south of Talkeetna, I was looking for rocks on the slope down to the tracks and I saw what looked like a GIANT pile of deer poop. I mean, these were the size of ping-pong balls. I thought to myself, I wonder what the heck makes a giant pile of deer poop like this? Yipes! Jumped up and spun around to look for the moose.

No moose to be seen, but there were some footprints, and a few piles of smaller poop, so they must have been there recently.

The only animals we saw were some flocks of birds around Anchorage, which I have tentatively identified as black-billed magpies.
No Ticks in Alaska (though that may change soon).....but Mosquitoes and Blacks Flies can be very annoying in certain areas.....

Speaking of wildlife. Stuff like this doesn't happen often.

I've never seen a tick in Alaska. I don't know if we have them or not. We do have heavy concentrations of some interesting plant life that you have to watch out for, like pushki and devil's club.
Some people have reported seeing ticks, and F&G advises to be on the lookout for them. But I have never seen any:

I created a graph that shows the Black Bear population in the U.S from 2011..

Alaska has the most by wide margin. Wisconsin next.

Wow, cool graph! I'm sort of surprised about the Dakotas having the lowest population. Not that far from Wisconsin.

p.s. I clicked on your link, but it lead me to some stupid porn site. I want that rep back! lol!

The most wildlife I've seen was an evening I spent at Chilkoot Charlie's.

Not too surprising for the Dakotas to have that. Few forested areas in North Dakota exist to support black bears and only the Black Hills could support them realistically in South Dakota.
