The latest scientific research shows that money does buy happiness in Alaska. Who knew? How they came to this ground breaking conclusion is beyond me. Alaskans are mostly happy with life, but the happiest have some things in common | Alaska Dispatch News

Here are the demographics from the article that are the happiest in Alaska
-Men
-People 65 and older
-Whites
-People with an annual income of over $100,000 (Pitts was right after all)
-Married People
-Parents
-Residents of southcentral towns outside of Anchorage (I was right, Anchorage is bad for your happiness levels)
-Alaska residents of less than 15 years
-Those not affiliated with any one political party

I hope no one actually paid for this "research". I think a well socialized person, who makes over $100,000 a year and lives in a small town, should be quite happy anywhere. Anyways, I found it interesting, especially the 15 year or less part. Does that mean after each long winter, your rosy view on the state begins to diminish a bit?

I was done after 40 of those winters. Now if you have $100K a year and are over 65 and retired you can afford to leave if and when you do become unhappy

I think part of it is that you have to pay to play somewhat, especially for outdoors stuff. Yeah hiking or tent camping is cheap but lift tickets and toys are pricey.
