They say that the odds are good but the goods might be odd. In the middle of winter the odd goods are pretty good.

Quit bragging, Hj. Kidding :-P

I find the odds to be better in summer just because people are out and about... a lot of people hibernate in the winter.

With most hibernating in the local bar.

It's true about hibernating. Once summer comes I run into people all
Around town that I've never seen. They live here, just our paths didn't cross over winter.

It's kind of different down here. A lot of locals hide from the summer people and don't come out again until they've gone south for the winter. I noticed that in Talkeetna, too.

One of my local bars closes for the winter, one of them looks like it belongs in Vail or Aspen (but has excellent beer, so we are forced to tolerate the decor), and the other one seats about six.

And there is almost literally nothing else here, unless you count the fuel station.

That sounds like Hyder, except for the fuel station. You gotta go across the border to fuel up.

I'm guessing howling dog for the one that closes during the winter, silver gulch for the one that belongs in Vail, but I'm stumped on the third one that seats six? Is Fox expanding and growing by leaps and bounds now a days?

Silver gulch is most definitely too fancy for Alaska and sometimes has strange people who are all clean and dressed up really nice enjoying a fine meal inside. Good beer though so I agree they get a pass with their fancy decor .

I actually miss me a good bar/brewery. We are lacking out here in Delta, besides "the cave" which is alright. I am ready for the clearwater lodge to open up again, which should be happening soon.

I'm almost ready for winter to begin again. Delta is getting busy and overrun with traffic, tourists driving by on the highway and people who drive all the way from fairbanks just to eat at the buffalo drive in like it's a quick jaunt to the local store. Speaking of driving far for food, some people also drive to fast eddies in Tok for breakfast from here like it's completely normal behavior. I believe it's about 100 miles each way, no biggie.

To get back to the main topic, it would seriously suck to find a mate in Alaska. If you try, don't look at the bars!

You're correct about the dog & the gulch. The third is the turtle.

Fox has not grown unless you count the lime crusher someone built next door to the dog last year. Some jackwagon came to town last winter asking us "what we needed" in Fox... a hotel, a laundromat, a this, that or the other, bragging about how he was going to buy property to develop it (as if anyone would sell it to him). He did not receive the "you're not welcome here" message after 100% of respondents answered by grumbling, "nothing" into our beers so he was ultimately chased out of the gulch by locals and asked not to return. To Fox, not to the gulch. No one was happy when they built the crusher last year and I'm nearly certain all of us would prefer Fox stay pretty much exactly as it is.
