That's what I figured. Even $2,000 would go real quickly up there. When we lived in Hawaii we knew people who went to Alaska for vacation (go figure), and even compared to the prices in Hawaii they were shocked by how expensive things were up there. I'm sure you would have to be a resident for a while to even qualify for something like this. No one will be hopping on a bus or a plane to get up there for "free" money.

$50 for laundry detergent??? Seriously?? Why the heck do people even move to Alaska if it's so cost-prohibitive? I remember my first- and last- trip to Hawaii back in 2007 and seeing that orange juice was $6 for a carton but the passion fruit and guava juices were dirt cheap! LOL.

I've always wanted to visit Alaska, though. I'm too much of a sissy to actually live there but I figure I can do a visit

Yeah, even a tube of toothpaste costs about $25 here, and don't even get me started on the cost of paper towels. I think they were about $15 a roll last time I could afford to buy them, and that was just for those little skinny rolls that only last about half a day instead of those Bounty ones. I imagine those luxurious paper towels cost around $20 a roll

People have and probably still do move up with the check as a motivating factor. They usually have three things in common -- a misunderstanding of the requirements necessary to receive the check (their level of understanding usually equates to the phrase "free money,") a loosely defined game plan of "living off the land," and quite a few children.

That's quite a bit of money to just wash your clothes.

But you have to wash them because you can't afford new ones.

Actually, Sakha Uola has it more right than you think....^^^

Anyway, I'm getting out of the fish business and setting up a store that sells laundry detergent ASAP.
