Walt McCandless, father of Chris McCandless, traveled back to Bus 142, where his son died in 1992, in March 2011. He and his wife Billie, guided by Fairbanks adventurer Ed Plumb, brought friends to the bus to celebrate the completion of Back to the Wild, a book of Chris's photos.

I understand their need to make sense of the unnecessary death of their son, but I really with they wouldn't romanticize that kind of poor decision making all over the media.

Bus 142 is every bit as historic as the Rosa Parks' Bus, the Partridge Family Bus, the Freedom Riders' Buses, and the Magic School Bus.

It should be airlifted out of the wilderness and placed inside the Anchorage Airport so all visitors can get a glimpse of the true Alaskan spirit.

What about the Stool Bus? Shouldn't it have a place in history too???

I think they should leave it there, it was intended to help provide shelter, wasn't it? I don't know, touchy subject and I can see both sides of the discussion.

The problem with leaving it there is that every year somebody has to be rescued from the area. Not only that, at least one person has already drowned trying to follow McCandles' trek. The bus should be moved far from there.

The bus had been used by hunters before McCandles died there.

I disagree. If you move it it won't stop the unprepared idiots from hiking out there. They'll still come.
