I doubt anything has changed between 2017 and 2021. No cruise ships last summer and there won't be any this summer either so the place will be quieter in the summer than it normally is. My advice from 2017 still stands - come up and rent a condo in the Begich Tower for a week or two and see if you like it. Better yet, do it in November or December and see how it goes.

There are so many other beautiful places to live in besides Whittier, with its difficult access, boom and bust pulses of visitors, lack of amenities. Cool place to visit for a cruise or to launch your boat. If you want to live next to steep mountains and access to great water, look to Southeast Alaska.

Quality of life? I'm really wondering what you're looking for in a retirement community. An apartment sized residence with cable TV and internet, those boxes are likely checked.
Sorry, can't help you. I don't think anyone frequenting this forum is a resident of Whittier.

No dirt there! The rain has washed it all away.

According to the Begich Towers website, they have broadband internet available for $79.99 per month with no data caps, no throttling and no contract. Television is available through Dish, no details listed.

Good info. Steep on the internet rate, though I guess in AK that's par for the course.

That internet service is ACS. That's what I have in Anchorage (same price). It says no data cap but if it is as slow as mine, you aren't going to use that many GB in a month because you just can't.

Yep! Don't forget that Dish will be quite a bit extra depending on what premium channel packages you choose. Basic levels won't include local (well, "local" is relative...maybe Sitka, Anchorage, Juneau, Ketchikan. Still better than Atlanta!) networks either...another surcharge.
