i`ve heard that because of the steep prices of vehicles in ak. that i could probably buy a new or good used car or truck, drive it up there and sell it and probably not lose any money at all or maybe come out a little ahead. i`ve always dreamed of seeing alaska, does this sound like a way of doing it?

Yes it can be done. As long as it's not some junker or you have an accident driving up here.

Are new cars that much more expensive than the lower 48?

They are many that buy vehicles in the lower 48 and drive them back. Whats funny is I see vehicles for sale on craigslist and other places...asking rediculous high prices. A person can buy a brand new vehicle "here" for the same amount or less...and get all the warranty stuff and no miles. Guys throw a set of fancy rims on and jack up the price to a rediculous amount. Or they bought way out of their budget trying to keep up with the Jones or to look "cool"...and can't afford the payments.

Most comparable newer late model 4X4 vehicles are actually 8% higher in the pacific Northwest then they are in Alaska. Another myth debunked folks!

Back in the hayday, dealers tried to gouge customers, now we are very competitive with the lower 48 and in many cases beat their pricing.
I just purchased a loaded FJ Cruiser with upgrade package #3 for $33,600 out the door. In Seattle, the same vehicle is running $35,000 and up! Seriously, don't waste your time trying to buy vehicles and resell them here.

Same with Dodge, Ford and Chevy, you can and usually do get the same buy if you're a smart buyer. A few dealers try and slap that old "Alaska dealer markup" on the window. Very first thing I tell them when I walk through the door, is I always ignore that additional markup and we can start from there. Never once had a dealer give me a bad time about it. They just stick them on there for that 1 in 10 sucker that comes along, or to try and make you feel like you got an even better deal.
