Yes there is a sidewalk but its a pretty good walk. There is a good sidewalk across the bridge. When you getting in? If you feel up to it, sure you could thumb a ride in--we don't find hitchhikers being mass murderers here, I pick up folks all the time. If I'm off and not doing anything, I'll come get ya.

Thanks everyone for the advice and the offer for a ride. But we've changed our plans and will go to Skagway for two days.

We're spending a total of two weeks in AK this July. We're really excited about all the places we plan to go and the brew pubs and restaurants on our list.

Uber is a new technologically advanced hitchhiking system they use down in America where there is actually roads and people and places to go and such. Instead of holding your thumb out towards the sky relying on the free good will of a stranger for a ride, you use your personal spy location tracking device, aka a "smartphone", to hail a driver to come give you a ride and actually have to pay the driver through Uber; the company who of course takes a cut. It also saves you the burden and humiliation of looking like a serial killer hitch hiker while a stream of cars passes you by and instead you look cool and hip with a personalized internet driver.

It sounds crazy but when I'm in America I find it better than a cab. My favorite part is how it tells you the price before you have to commit to the trip. Usually about half price as a cab IME.

I picked a random spot in town and it looks like it's a mile & half: https://goo.gl/maps/uw8tc6sbh3H2
And Google street view appears to show a sidewalk.

The airport is called "Rocky Gutierrez," who was he?
