Learned a new word today too - "cabotage."[/b]
It's like cabbage, but not as tasty.

Cruises will be operating in the Caribbean this season. I believe it's Carnival Cruises that will be requiring all passengers to be vaccinated.

Regarding vaccination requirement, I hope they mean "vaccinated plus 2-3 weeks", because there are numerous experts and studies that have said that there is nearly no benefit for at least the first few weeks following vaccination and then "whammo," 90% protection, depending on vaccine.

It's not like one can just get a jab on the way to the plane or up the gangplank and be protected or unable to transmit the virus.

Good grief! There are NO experts on Covid vaccines. These alleged experts change their opinion every 5 days depending on the whims of the political scientists.

I'm sure they will follow the guidelines, which are actually the same for the 3 vaccines being used in US to date. That would be 2 weeks after final shot for full protection. Also, there is significant protection before those two weeks according to what I've read.

Israel is out in front with their roll out, check out this cool animated graphic of their results.

I know this guy, and he's nothing like the offshore vultures that permeate the Alaska cruise industry who put profit over human health and life. Uncruise requires full vaccination according to CDC guidelines, so no, a jab on the way to the gangplank won't cut it with this company. You can read more about that here:

I think many can rationalize the rebound of the cruise industry. That is easy. The hard part is convincing the general public. I think this will take some time. I would expect 2021 is pretty much a lost cause and at best 2022 will be the actual restart.

As someone who's traveling to Alaska for the first time this summer, I'm selfishly glad that there won't be cruise ships while I'm there. I've heard that Alaska gets overrun with tourists and big crowds are the last thing I want at this point, with ongoing concerns about COVID.

I understand that this greatly impacts businesses and I feel for the locals who only have a few months to make enough money for the entire year. Hopefully, enough people will get onboard with taking the vaccine for us to reach herd immunity and for life to return closer to normal, in a safe manner.
