And unfortunately that is exactly why we have to have border patrols in place. We should all be able to go where we want as you posted, however, that is only in a "perfect" world that does not exist.

I just returned Sat driving the Alcan - down to WA. Roads were great! I swear the heaves got better? Or was I just prepared for them this time for them coming? Anyone know if it is flatter this time of year. I never felt in danger other than watching for wildlife in road. Borders on the way up Canada asked mainly about proof of enough $$ Alaska looked into my vehicle more than others. On the way up no one wanted to see dogs paperwork.

Entering the Yukon on the way down didn't want to look at truck didn't ask about $$ didn't mind having Bear Spray but biggest deal was seeing dogs paperwork. It surprised me when returning to WA that they take pictures of vehicle when entering. Asked about fruit and looked at passport and on my way.

I do have a infraction with alchole on record 11 years old. Never came up. However friends of mine were on a cruise ship last year, had a DUI from 8 years ago. Went all the way up and upon return got off at Victoria he ended up being escorted back to boat after paying $200 and told if he came back on land they would put him in jail. It doesn't seem to have a reason to who or what?

Nope, when you leave Alaska, you never see U.S. Customs until you hit the lower 48 boarder. You can wave to them as you go by though!

BUT, you will get stopped at the Canadian boarder at Beaver as well as a few other spots depending on where you cross at.

You can, you just needed to contact Canadian Customs "Before" you got there. They will charge you a "Fee" for a "Pass" that lets you go though customs at the boarder which is good for a number of days, but if you don't have it when you arrive, it is too late.

A number of my friends are in the same boat from their Youthful indiscretions and have to still pay for it.

Random thoughts. Drunk driving is carnage. It is simply not "fair" that a remote violation should cause a person to be excluded from Canada, but I see their viewpoint.

No one owns the earth, but countries think they do along with Shell BP and yada yada.

I have crossed in several times. At my last checkpoint the US was a pain rather than Canada. Canada was a wave through, but if you have guns please get the permits in advance.

The US border going to Tok takes a picture of your license plate then asks you questions about where you are coming from yada yada.

I have found that a smile a passport (not a drivers license) speeds the process. Take it seriously. They do.

Of course there are some jerks out there all over the world eh?

If you are driving the AlCan, the Milepost Magazine is a must have. I've done it 6 times so far, and I always have the latest copy with me.
