well i read all i could find on here and most places about Ft.Yukon, and well didnt find much, but i must say that i did get caught up in the move that Radio Flyer was debating on. What ever happened with that move, does anyone know or heard from him? I too am looking into relocating into the bush as yall call it lol, from most things that i have read i can handle but i cant find much on employment and ways to suplement during the winter months. I am a skilled electrician 10 years running and was head of Maintenance at a college for 4 years as well, have a small background currently as an IT specialist at a local college as well, im an avid hunter as well as a fisherman who grew up in a small town with lots of outdoors activities, hense the old song Country boys can survive well thats us lol, down to earth but not a red neck no thinking hillbilly lol, i am educated haha, so how much is 2 plus 2 haha anyways, im currently a full time student as well and my wife homeschools our children, soooooo tell me some about this place please, and how about some more pictures if anyone has some.
Thanks alot.

Not much there to find, a few hundred folks, mostly related. You might try living on the road system first until you get a grasp on Alaska. Going straight out into the Bush with a young family can either be the best thing that ever happened, but odds are much better that it will be the worst thing to happen to you... Hard to explain, you just have to see it to understand, totally different lifestyle than what most folks think.

Good Luck in your dream...

There is very little work in most of those bush villages. Most of the jobs are already taken. The villages are not connected to each other by road so you only have the few hundred people in town.

If you could find a way to make money on the internet, then you could pretty much live anywhere you want to as long as you can get internet access.

Basically, you need to be self-employed. And your customer base needs to be outside the village. There isn't enough money in most of the villages to support a family if you are depending on others in the town to pay you to do stuff.

That is not true everywhere. There are certain areas in which the average income is very high. Dutch Harbor is a good example. I believe that area has the highest average income in the state.

I would imagine that a skilled electrician could set himself up well in that town. If you had other skills to trade off on it would help...but Fort Yukon probably isn't going to work.

Thanks for the information, it is helpful. I was wandering one thing though, is there any industry in those remote areas like that? Oil, gas, etc.. What is up there that supports the communities? Dutch Harbor huh? I will have to look that up dont see it here on the paper map but it'll pop up quick here on the boob toob. Again wisdom always pays off.
