Raspberries and blueberries near the city of Anchorage, how wonderful. I guess you fellas had better get busy before the cold weater get to them. I'm always hearing something wonderful about my favorite state to dream about.

Picking raspberries wild, that would be my dream. When we lived in northern Calif we could pick bosenberries that here, here in AR we have lots of blue berries, but not many wild ones. They are long out of season (usually gone by early July) raspberries can be picked now at picking farms but I bet they are a heck of a lot higher than in Alaska...

Hatcher Pass was my favorite spot for blueberries when I lived in the area. However, the best picking occurred mid-to-late August. By September, the berries were turning soft and mushy.

the hills are alive...
Around here the hills are alive...with huge patches of blueberries! Some of the old logging cuts are loaded with bushes, and this year the bushes are loaded with huge blueberries. Some of them are the size of marbles or small grapes, and there are tons of them out there. This is what was left after we gave some to the neighbors and made a couple pies, we picked maybe two gallons in a patch maybe twenty feet across.
We've gotta get back out there and load up for winter, they seem to get sweeter after they're frozen.
