I rode my bike from February on, it had no problems. As you seen from your trip here, it gets very dusty here and the sand is very fine. If you do bring it up with you, get a extra set of pads. I have yet to wear mine out, but at some point this winter, I'll tear down the Giant and repack everything and change the pads.

It might not look like it, but if you go out by BIA and the Tower road, there are some offroad trails around the area. And of course the Bike/Walk Path along side the State Highway. You might want to get some fenders for your bike, too. The sand/silt dries hard and stains whatever you are wearing. I made a front fender out of a motorcycle rear fender, works good. Today we had on/off snow and it didn't freeze, so the roads were mucky.

Joe's custom fenders!

This muck was just from today's ride to work and back.

My Giant has Moto Raptor 2.5" tires on it, they are great but noisy tires, and throw a lot of mud everywhere, that's why I made the front fender for it and got the rear from my friend who has the Pugsley.

Buy two. You'll need the second one for parts.
