Well finally got the news that hubby will be working in Prudhoe Bay.

Now it is getting his BIG tool box and all of his tools up there.

One option is to sell his box and purchase one up there...

But if anyone reading this has experience shipping stuff like this.....who did you have a good experience with. We have researched this some and have been told that people up there have done it about every way you can think of.

Suggestions would be great thanks!

I'm not too sure about getting them up there. I see alot of people checking small tool boxes on the plane. Seen some larger ones also, I'm guessing your talking about like a mechanics box. I would call Brooks Range Supply and check on prices on replacing it up there. They are the local NAPA and should be able to tell you what it would cost to replace. Transporting it up would probably be Lindon Transport.

How big a box are we talking about, a standard hand carried tool box, or a big roll-away unit like a Kennedy or Snap-On? My only experience is that the company ships any big stuff that can't be brought as checked luggage. BTW, Alaska Air allows three free pieces of checked luggage in-state, up to 50lbs each. Selling and buying again wouldn't be a good idea - ain't nuthin cheap up there!

River Wood,

Looks from your profile like you are in MN?? If so and anywhere near Forest Lake (35), he can box and ship with Carlile Transportation, who can take them to Anchorage or Prudhoe...

His box is a big roll around kind lol sorry he isn't here I'm kind of asking without having dimensions. I can tell ya it is a big son of a gun, heavy with many drawers too.

Were thinking too that it would probably be too expensive to purchase a new one up there.

It is nice that Alaska Air allows some free luggage, we found out that in a week or so that that airline will be flying in and out a few times a day to the Minneapolis Intl Airport BUT with a stop on the way.

So much to figure out

FYI, Alaska allows only one free piece when traveling in the lower 48. The three piece limit is for travel within Alaska. So, he could buy things in Anchorage and take two more pieces free to the slope (50 lb limit).

Yes, I could have used that flight a few weeks ago for my trip out to MSP.

Very few Alaska Air oustide flights are direct, 99% stop in Seattle.

When is he going up? I think my next (driving) trip up the line to Prudohoe is in mid Nov. Who knows, maybe I could find some extra room in the back of the Suburban - assuming you could get the stuff as far as Fairbanks!

Does he really need to bring his own box? I would think the company he's working for would have all the tools he needs already up here. He might need some special items which he could bring in a hand carry type box...but I can't see him needing his own massive toolbox. If he does his employer should make arrangments to have his tools shipped from Anchorage or Fairbanks to the slope. He should check with the employeeer and ensure he even needs to bring his own stuff.
