it was on a video bashing palin so i know it could be propaganda. does anyone have any fact on this?
if it true, does anyone know why?

(edit) also i realize this is a pretty touchy subject so i hope im not offending anyone. im just curious because if true, its a pretty interesting statistic.

OK. This question has been asked over and over on this board, but still, it's been awhile, and the OP deserves an answer.

Statistically, yes, there is a lot of violence towards women in the state of Alaska. But it's also easy to stay relatively safe because the crimes tend to take place within a certain segment of society that is easily avoided. It isn't quite as random as elsewhere.

You can find statistics all over the internet that will support different numbers. If you're really interested in it, you can start here:

the majority of the crimes in Alaska are alchohol related. So...if you don't go looking for love in all the wrong places you won't have any issue.

That sounds like advice to use in other places as well. There are alcohol related crimes committed all over the US, I'm curious as to why the OP would ask that...sincerely, I would like to know.

Good points.

I will also add that statistics can be deceiving, and if one takes the time to read the legend of some statistics, tables, etc., one can understand why. For example, if one adds the total number of rapes committed in a very large city anywhere in the US, this number is very high when compared to the total number of rapes in a small town. More crimes are committed in large cities because these have more inhabitants. But when the 100,000 number of inhabitants are used to compare the crimes in all cities (large and small), a small city or town can have more crimes per-capita. Also, a series of crimes can be localized, or within a few small areas. For example, in certain areas of town.

This is a reason why a lot (not all) of the police statistics usually include an explanation about the possibilities of misusing crime statistics.

After I saw this video, I had to check out the stats:

A Message To Sarah Palin From The Young Girls Of America

Celebrity gossip juicy celebrity rumors Hollywood gossip blog from Perez Hilton » Blog Archive » A Message To Sarah Palin From The Young Girls Of America

So, here's Alaska's Crime Statistics, 1960-2007:

Alaska Crime Rates 1960 - 2007

I honestly don't know how that compares to the rest of the states, because I wouldn't know how to pick or choose what constitutes an average American state, as they all vary greatly.

Very moving video, though.

Why don't you take this political video against Palin to the political forum?

It's relevant to the discussion at hand. This video is precisely what caused me to investigate said statistics regarding whether Alaska has "double the amount of rape as the other 49 states?"
