Yes, I used to take the kids there too.

Default feeling brave

If you're feeling brave, try Steeple Dr. right after it snows and before the plows hit it. They usually don't get around to plowing it until early morning, and by then there's always several snowmachine tracks in addition to the ones from sleds, skiis, and snowboards. Probably more suitable for older kids, but the lower parts of it can be fun for the little guys too as long as it's late enough that there's no traffic.

To find it, keep going past the Walmart towards the nature center, and take a left at Eagle River Loop or Lane (I forget). If you miss it, look for the yellow rock at the entrance road to Raven Elementary and take a left on Wren. It turns into New England Dr. as you curve back to the left and dead-ends on Steeple.

For the little guys, the park in downtown Eagle River has some hills steep enough to sled on if it's the right kind of snow, but they're pretty short.

Have fun!

Check the elementary schools. Anchorage School District has been making efforts on building sledding hills at their schools. Centennial Park which is off of the Muldoon exit has a great sledding hill and is a short drive from Eagle River. The sled hill is near at the campground part of the park. Here's a link.
