My family, including husband and 7yo child are new to Alaska and are currently living in Eagle River. We're from NC and never had much snow... Where are some good places to take my little guy sledding around here? I really don't want to slide out into a street or anything... Also are there good (read cheap) places that will teach a southern girl to ski (any kind) or ice skate? BTW we're loving Alaska!

Kincaid Park, Russian Jack Springs Park, Service Highschool, Hillside area, and Westchester Lagoon all have sledding places.

Arctic Valley is the best sledding spot! You'll need a driver to take you back up when you are done. Bring a pillow as it can be bumpy.

Back in the late 60's we sledded on what was known as Bilikan Hill in Anchorage. If I remember correct it was on Muldoon Road. It may very well be paved now!

Uh...yeah...remember the 60's? It was only like 40 years ago. I was only 7 years old! Anchorage was nothing like it is today.

Heck I don't even call it a city today! It's just a big town.
