I need some help. I am making a quilt for my son in the Coast Guard and would like include some lighthouses. Does anyone have photographs of any lighthouses in and around Ketchikan that I could use for creating a pieced or applique block? I think there are some on neighboring islands. Thanks for your help.

Aurorawatcher- thanks for the info, I had looked at one of those sites. My problem is I am not sure which are near Ketchikan, having never been to Alaska and not being familiar with all the islands. I know the Guard Island Light is near Ketchikan, are there others?

On the first link there is a map tool bar for google maps. Click on that and it'll show you where each is located.

Or go here

Lightship Umatilla is north of Ketchikan as is Mary Island Lighthouse.

"Tree Point Lighthouse", poised to warn mariners of treacherous 'Lord Rocks' below. We'll continue on to "Mary Island Lighthouse". Just 25 miles from the Canadian border, it was named in 1872 for the daughter of Admiral John Winslow. Next we'll search out the Lightship Umatilla LV 196 which served at Umatilla Reef from 1961 to 1971, when it was decommissioned. It then mysteriously disappeared for 29 years, finally being discovered in Ketchikan in 2000. "Guard Island Lighthouse" is our last destination. It was first illuminated in 1904 and is one of 4 wooden buildings resting on tiny Guard Island today, still leading mariners to safety.

The above clip is all the lighthouses around Ketchikan during a 90 flight. Hope it helps.

Thanks so much for the info, folks. I have had a hard time finding a map where I could see the individual islands and their relationship to one another. It is usually just a jumble. Guess I need to ask Santa for a really good map for Alaska. Now this is going to sound like a dumb question, but remember it is coming from a big city girl. Since so much of Alaska has to be traveled by boat or plane, do you even have highway maps that fold up to keep in your glove box? I keep hinting to DS, but so far he hasn't sent me one, so I was beginning to wonder.

If you're a AAA member, you can order a couple of different maps from them.
