Since last April, I've been working with the local Mat-Su and Anchorage shelters getting info out about dog sports and activities. "People that are active with their dogs take better care of them and themselves" our motto. "And the dogs don't end up back in the shelter." The mission.

Alaska Dog News turned into a big deal in about 3 months. I'm always looking for more info. People come up from the lower 48 and want to continue the same sports that are best done in warmer climates. Crazy!

But, some how we pulled off Flyball, Dockdogs, upland game hunting, retriever field trials and hunt tests. The frusration comes if you're bent on training like you did in the "tropics and sun" . You can train and compete like mad from late May to early October but after that the training, suffers and the outdoor sports end unless they are snow related.

I want to make the Alaska Dog News as complete as it possibly can. Anyone out there involved in dog sports that AkDN does not cover? (check out the calendar in the PDFs) Or have ways to train and have fun in the dark, frozen north?

I'm about to hook up the Labradors and invent Skijor bi-athalon. You heard it here first! Anyone wanting to send stories about canine adventures is welcome as well.
Thanks.

Not sure, but I think they do that already in Fairbanks, just don't use Labradors, they use pretty much anything with fur and four legs...

I mean skijor until the dog scents a grouse/ptamigan,flush, shoot (or knock it out of the tree, the only way I hit them) and retrieve? How fun would that be? If they do that in Fairbanks I have to get a hold of them! Probably some logistics with unhooking a dog on a hot scent. (At the harnes not at the waist belt). I don't see anything in the regss that says you can't hunt from skis.
