It has been quite cold around Fairbanks, North Pole, Salcha, and even Delta Junction for a few days now. The temperature is around -42 outside my home near Fairbanks. In some areas of North Pole it's from -42 to -59, and the ice fog is so thick in Fairbanks that it's better not to drive unless one has to. I saw several stopped vehicles between North Pole and Fairbanks, and a couple of accidents by the Steese/3rd Street in Fairbanks.

A could clearly see a thick smog cloud covering Fairbanks as I approached Fairbanks on the Richardson, and then when driving from 3rd Street down to Airport Way, the smug looked just beautiful. The ice fog, from the ground to as high I could see, was sort of an orange/pink color with the sun-in the fog- shining low in the horizon.

Hopefully avery one of us is ready to tackle this cold front and the one coming next week.

Only got down to -23° here last night. I have been in colder, but this is the first time in AK at that temp. I must say, it is much drier here, so it doesn't quite feel so cold.

It's deceiving in that while it does not feel as cold, exposed flesh or flesh that gets wet (like breaking through ice on the river) can freeze very fast. It's very possible to get temperatures around -65 around Fairbanks. I remember perhaps 1990 when it was -65 for over a week

For sure, look at his skinny legs, probably from shivering....We had -27 at 10:30 this morning, so not bad and no wind here for over a week, the spruce trees and deciduous are still loaded with the snow from last week, beautiful, and we have had sun, so it just glistens out...can't imagine -65
I am too old to do that, that is why I am on the peninsula in the banana belt of the mainland...yeah right...should see the frost on one of my outer walls inside, and a couple of the windows...think we have some insulation issues come spring and summer....

You're right, that's the bad part of the cold, you almost don't feel it until it's too late
