The Palmer Police Dept. is probably your best resource concerning the son who has goen to a police academy already. I think that the academy in Sitka is specific to State Troopers.

Public Safety Training Academy

As far as your other son...I suppose it depends on what kind of "past" he has. Your asking about parole boards indicates that he's a felon. It might be rough on him, but if he's sincere about changing his direction and is willing to work hard to do so, he can probably make it. My advice would be for the son who doesn't have a record to obtain work, get a place, get to know people and get a feel for the prospects that might be available for his brother.

People post here asking the same questions about housing, weather, crime, towns to live in and everything else. And it has all been posted here many times.
Yikes, imagine those kind of questions on a relocation board. I'm in shock.

It's not that we don't want to answer them for you because the people here will go out of their way to find answers to questions.
You've made it up then, congrats on that Sorry if I missed it; I don't come around all that much--(it's simply too easy during the winter to spend way too much time online, and it really isn't healthy).

FWIW, I've known a lot of local law enforcement types who transferred from wherever they were living, if they were already employed in law enforcement. Unfortunately, quite a few were also allowed to transfer to another state with a glowing recommendation if they agreed to go quietly, thus shuffling a problem onto some other agency. This is specific to city police, I know nothing about the Troopers.

If he wanted to become a Trooper, he can't pick where he wants to live, they'll put him where they need him the most. That would mean living off the road system for the first couple years. This would be anywhere in Rural Alaska that isn't connected to the road. Anywhere from Ketchikan to Barrow.

Indianhi - for the past year I was executive director of a non-profit organization in Walla Walla,WA whose specific mission was to help individuals being released from incarceration to reassimiliate into the community. We helped with housing, getting jobs, support group, etc. I am VERY familiar with the challenge it can be for felons to pick up the pieces of their lives when their time is done. I'm guessing that having a family member facing those barriers may be a contributing factor to you being a bit sensitive to how people responded. However, I'm in complete agreement with Metlakalta, your original question was not clear - I too thought you were talking about ONE son and was quite confused whether that son was in law enforcement or had a conviction. So take a deep breath, realize we are all just human beings trying to communicate across a distance, so some ambiguity and misunderstandings are inevitable. Rather than take it personally, how about adjust your approach to try again to get the information you need?
