Thanks; I repped you back.

An issue like this isn't one that most people know very much about. I've been around mushers a little but not much. I know that my mother, who has done a great deal of sled dog rescue, had great respect for Susan Butcher because of the way she treated her dogs.

It's easy for people who know little about Alaska to have misconceptions. It gets old seeing those who truly do want to know more about it being constantly bashed. It's one thing for someone like Blondie to come around and call us all ignorant animal haters et al, but I haven't seen much of that attitude in this thread.

Sorry but most of the breeders treat their animals very well. They aren't tortured since stress is a factor that affects the fur. I have a full length mink coat & a matching trooper cap that I enjoy as well as a full length silver raccoon coat & matching trooper cap. There are 36 raccoons in the coat & 9 in the hat. Both are extremely warm. I also like my leather bomber jacket & the leather couch & seats in my cars.

Because Massachusetts is one of the most screwed up and overregulated states in existence? The last thing I'd want would be for Alaska to start immitating a third-rate state like Mass.

Now that's not to say that there are people out there that breed fur animals who shouldn't be doing so, or having pets or reproducing, but there are also folks out there that treat their animals correctly. I've seen furs that look like crap. The pelts don't match each other & some pelts are rough or have bald spots. I've also examined very spendy coats where the pelts are an amazing deep black, (mink). Here's a link I found which was actually unusual because it attempts to set the record straight for responsible breeders.

Barkely, does anyone ever mistake you for a pimp when you're wearing your mink?

Actually I do get a lot of compliments from black folks. White people usually think I'm gay.

This is interesting...
