Oh it's been like that for years. You should have seen it before they double laned Sterling. 20 minutes to pull out of a driveway! No shiite!

And that is why I strictly forbid myself from getting on the river until mid September. We're an Anchorage magnet.

No, it's not just you. I was dipnetting from the north shore, and I can clearly recall at least two instances (on Wed I think) when some A-hole in his machismo-compensating power boat INTENTIONALLY did a speed run along the shore just to kick up a big wake and watch everyone scramble to keep from being swamped. I don't think it's necessarily an Anchorage or city thing, rather I think it is the natural behavior of the beer-drinking, loud-mouth, red-neck, trailer-trash segement of American culture. Say's allot for our cultural morees.
LOL. Well put. Fools abound.

I heard another 47 thousand fish made it through the counter today. And thats after the dipnetters. We're gonna be swamped with fish in 2 days up here in Sterling. Just spent a couple hours down at the "hell hole". I have a bunch of fresh fillets to smoke and jar.

Fishin's Good!

Pardon my ignorance.....

Are folks dipnetting for salmon or are there a variety of fish that the netters net?

The dipnetting being discussed here is primarily for Red (Sockeye) Salmon on the Kenai river. However, one will inevitably catch a few Pinks (Humpys) as well. I think I got three, as well as one Dolly Varden. The permit also allows you to keep 1 Flounder. I got one little one but let it go. There's also a good chance to land a King Salmon, but you need an extra stamp on your license to keep one. I saw two landed while I was there. One hit the net of a lady a few spots up from me and nearly pulled her under before ripping her net off. It then hit a couple other nets before finally being landed by a big Samoan guy. It was probably a good 50 pounder.

The limit, for Alaska residents only, is 25 per head of household plus 10 per family member.

Thank you for the info. I'd go crazy. Salmon is my favorite food.
