It is part of the Kenai Peninsula. North of Kenai about 8 or 10 miles. Right on the coast. A sort of small community but spread out quite a ways. A few refineries, lot's of oilfeild service companies and shops. A heliport for the offshore platforms and a large docking area for support boats. 13? offshore platforms located in Cook Inlet off the Nikiski coast. They have a highschool, grade school and a dome shaped public swimming pool.

Default industrial

Do your homework before buying in Nikiski. There are a lot of very nice subdivisions there, but there is also a lot of unzoned stuff right next to heavy industrial like pipeline compressors, refineries, gas plants, heliports, etc. Just a word to the wise, it doesn't take that many trees to obscure your neighbors so it pays to look around a LOT and check the maps.

Kenai borough has a very comprehensive "parcel viewer" on their website which can show zoning, usage, ownership, wetlands, satellite and aerial views, etc. Its very slow sometimes, but an invaluable resource for researching property before you buy.
