Too much to write. But I think everywhere life was easier to live. Safer and more friendly be it USA or Europe. Untill I'd say mid eighties. Too much trouble, too much migration, too many restrictive laws to obey. I don't think the relativly long period of peace and prosperity will last- there will be wars for food, land and such. Sahara is jumping Gibraltar into Portugal. Mediterranean sea is choking with weeds. North Africa will migrate to Europe as it tuns into desert- there are preparations for this going on now.
California used its aquifiers, ground is collapsing 6-8 feet in some places and anyways the selenium salts it contains are making the farming dirt useless. Lake Michigan is 4' or more below normal level for years and it does not look like it will go up ever. Wherever you look, there is trouble brewing and no easy solutions.
And the $500 fine in Singapore, that's not USD500 is it?

Nope, Singapore dollars. Still a chunk of change to an ordinary enlisted puke like me.

I'm not sure about AK, but I know here in WA that meth is the common denominator behind most of the theft and violence. It's of epidemic proportions, and the authorities, both local and national, are not doing much about it at all. A few years ago, my house was broken into, and most everything of value was stolen, and the cops didn't even investigate. They said "it happens all the time", and "we don't have the time to look into it". They didn't even bother to ask neighbors if they had seen anything. As many of you point out, there is little deterrence for those interested in preying upon society.

Portugal legalized drugs, provides them for junkies and such along with incentives and help in quitting. When this was passed visions of apocalipse were painted by opponents. Well, today drug use in Portugal is way down. Related crime is down. Drug use and interest among teens is down. Great success.
US "war on drugs" is such a lie. It is a war on its citizens. California is broke due to its tough sentencing and parole laws that penalize everything instead of educating. Nation wide millions are jailed for pssesion or use of trivial amounts of drugs at tremendoud cost to the taxpayers...
