We will be moving in a few weeks and would like to know if there is anyone on here that lives there We have two boys 9 and 11 and our 21 yr old daughter is coming with us for a few months to help us adjust and to check it out as well. Would like to know about the school and any info that would help us with our move would be great TIA

With the 5 of you going out there you'll increase the population tremendously. New blood in a community is a good thing. Good luck.

Yeah, you should be almost doubling the local population.

At one time it was a Navel Base and has been shut down and will be more like a Ghost Town today. Lots of buildings and few people.

What kind of work are you going to be doing there, Environmental Cleanup?

There is a school there, but last I heard it wasn't not in operation as such. The kids in that area did home schooling, that may have changed in recent history, but the Navel Base was the town, and died out when they shut the doors and left.

It was given to the local Native Corp and they may be trying to bring it back to life, if so it would be more related to fishing, but Dutch pretty much has the lead in that.

Default How goes it Adak?

Wondering how you survived the culture shock with the move to Adak. Remote would be an under statement when describing Adak. There are no in-between there: You love or you hate it. Which are you? (I loved it!)
