LOL ditto Flamie (sorry love that name).
Did the same when I've been the waitress.
In those cases it was almost always the PITA customer
who demanded substitutions, complained about the
food and grumbled over the bill.
When they left the minor duckets on the table I would
follow them outside to tell them they left their change
and hand it back.
Alot of times it served to embarrass them in front of
the tablemates who didn't know the server got stiffed.
Best was I did have a time when one person come back
from a party to give a tip to the staff the next day.
He felt bad about the way we were treated by his friends
and it was bothering him all night.
LOL had to stop thinking bad thoughts/karma against him.

yes it does work to embarrass the crap out of some people...one waitress received a a $25 check the next week by mail from one of the table mates who felt really really bad 'cuz like you said...the others were not aware their dinning companion had stiffed the poor waitress.
I still want the owner to put on the menu "PITA tax will be charged at the cooks or waitstaff discretion."

I get the jackass's that come in with a $20 in there hand and still insist on cleanin out the "give a penny take a penny" cup.. just to buy a lousy half pint of cheap vodka.. I'll call them out on it.. "do you see that is says "take A penny" not "all cheap bastards welcome"" ... usually enough to embarrass them so they put them all back and then put there own change back in it after I cash them out..

She called Shel awhile ago; when he gets back from fishing I'll ask him for a contact number/address.
