so I need to ask a question.

If someone goes deer hunting, does it mean anything if they bring back a deer in a mesh bag?

The reason I am asking is because two deer were found down the road a few days ago with just the backstrap taken out.

All the deer I have seen that people have brought home from hunting have been the entire animal. What I saw just a few hours ago was an idjit with a mesh bag that contained animal parts.

I am suspicious of these people anyway as they are bad sorts we will be serving an eviction notice to via an attorney within the week. I am wondering if they are not the ones responsible for the dead deer down the road with just the backstraps taken out and that they are still doing it.

So--does this sound suspicious at all to any of the hunters here? I just don't know enough about it but I have never heard of anyone going hunting and bringing out animal parts in a bag.

I know a couple guys who bone out all the meat and only bring back bags of meat. I prefer cutting it up at home as do most.

But it sounds to me like they're killing animals and just taking their favorite parts Met with what you've seen...

I kind of think so too. Because these deer were killed so close to where everyone lives......

*edited to add that these deer were found right on the side of the freakin' road*

The more I think about it the more I think that these idjits are responsible. They have a dog that they keep on a chain all the time that has been chewing on a deer hoof.

There are wanton waste laws in Alaska. If you shoot a meat animal, deer, bear, moose -it's the law you must harvest the meat. If you think someone is killing and wasting the meat you should let fish & game know. That's just wrong on all counts! Really jerks my goat when people do that.

report them!!! responsible hunters take and use everything including the bones. Some hunters do de-bone the animal and just bring back the meat. I do believe they just got the idjit of the eon award!!

I also know a guy who also bones out his big game in the field, and I understand his reasons for doing so. Particularly if you do not have an ATV or other vehicle, and have to pack the meat out on foot.

I think most hunters prefer to debone and do all the prep. work at home in a cleaner, and safer environment. Particularly in Alaska where it is not a good idea to spend a great deal of time with your freshly killed game in the field. I prefer to gut, and cut up caribou or moose into about six pieces, and then haul it out as quickly as possible and finish the rest at home. I do use a mesh game bag to keep the flies and other parasites off the meat while I am transporting it home.

Yes. Deer season opened August 1st and runs until the end of the year.

What is the prescribed response if you are in the field with your kill and a bear shows up?
