Looking to buy a truck and wondering if anyone has done buisness with Kendall in Anchorage, and if so, what was your experience. Thanks.

Eric

I bought a Toyota Corolla from Kendall in Anchorage this past August. I used their web site extensively before I visited their lot. So by the time I showed up, I knew exactly what I wanted and exactly what they had. As a result, the only thing I to quibble about with the salesman was the interest rate.

If you do choose to buy from Kendall in Anchorage, pay very close attention to all the forms presented and listen carefully to their Financial Rep., because he has been through this thousands of times and has a tendency to talk fast and just wants you to sign without reading the details. Ask questions if you don't understand. They were friendly enough, and genuinely wanted to provide me with a pleasurable buying experience, but I felt a little rushed.

Overall, I would rate them 4 out of 5 stars.

Many Toyotas are American. As are Hondas. Maybe even Subarus.

Yes Toyota actually has some plants here in the United States... unlike Ford and GM who actually outsource most of the car to other countries, and really only assemble the parts here in the United States (usually)

Don't know about Kendall, but my son bought a used Toyota from the dealer in Fairbanks and really likes it.

I won't buy a Ford, never really liked them and won't buy a GM or Chrysler until the Unions and Government are out of the car company business where they had no place to be to start with.

Just bought a 2010 Toyota RAV4 last week and it is great and the first "Rice Rocket" that I have bought! Six year/125,000 full warranty.

I also have a 2005 GMC 2500HD I bought new and have 130,000 miles on it now and love it, but won't buy another until they are on their own again. I would have preferred to buy American, but there isn't too many options that appeal to me under Socialism

I've never bought a new car here.... how much more does one pay for a car here? Would it be cheaper to buy in Seattle or Montana and drive it up here?

They are "Suppose" to be the same prices now as stateside. The factory is suppose to charge the same for shipping a car from across the street from the factory or across the Country.

But having said that, you can get better deals still from outside where they don't have as much overhead in most cases.

Some years back, I went to Gene's Chrysler in Fairbanks and wanted to buy a new Diesel Truck... They were firm on the price.

I went to a company (Dave Smith) in Idaho and got the same truck for almost $12,000.00 less! It paid for the flight down, great drive back and still was coin ahead by a long shot...

You go past Gene's Chrysler now and it looks like a Ghost Town there.... I don't think they would still be in business if they didn't have fresh military transplants here that didn't know better.

I can recommend Kendall out here is wasilla. We bought a used Ford Focus from them a few months ago. They worked their butts off to get us in that car at a price we could afford. We didn't think we would be able to afford the car, but they came down, then down again, and even again to the point where I truely believe they didn't make a profit. Not after all the man hours put into it. They even let us drive the car for close to a week while all the financing was going through.

Yes, the price is the same. I bought a Subaru Forester this summer, and the difference in price from the lower-48 was around $800.00 destination charge. But with American vehicles one can negotiate a price if you know how. Subaru, Toyota, and Honda are quite popular, and the dealers don't negotiate much.

Just before I bought mine, a coworker handed me a Subaru $600.00 rebate coupon. The local dealer also gave me a $100.00 coupon for filing finance online, and I talked the sales person into having a $700.00 remote starter installed. I bought a Subaru with manual transmission, which saved me around $1,100.
