The only reason they are "Claiming" they are endangered is to stop the oil exploration on the slope. Their numbers have steadily increased since the sixties. The science they are using is not anything but speculation on what "May" happen, and the last few years has been a steady down turn in the temps. Even if the ice was gone, they are the same as Grizzly/brown bears, just white. They cross breed and produce offspring. They would live just fine eating Caribou, baby geese and ducks, not to mention that if the ice all went away, the seals would just calf up on the beach where the bears could eat them there too.

Nature does just fine on it's own, we are only temporary here ourselves.
