I took the plunge! Upon an advice from my brother in law.... he said it will never be the ideal time to go. But if you go, upon return you will find out that your town is ok, your home is ok, all your kids and friends are still alive.
I traveled into the "remote" and "wild" and I loved it. I got lost and I managed. I went back and loved it even more! If I have the funds...
But after parts of US, parts of Canada, parts of Poland and Lebanon... this spring comes Turkey!
Don't hold me back
istanbul is kind of a shoddy town if you're not loaded and trying to live on a budget. however, i really liked the asian part of turkey. especially the southern coast...

I'm getting on my flight Dec 28th and start work on Jan 4th. I'm so excited and I hope things go well. The easy part is that my employer has an apartment all ready for me so I won't have to look for a place to live for 4 months, but I'll have to start looking for a car to buy which to me is stressful just because I don't like car salesmen, they sometimes treat women terrible.
Should be an adventure!

That is awesome that you have an apartment waiting. I don't care for car salesmen either. Years ago when I was single and looking for a car I'd never tell the salesman what I wanted to spend. I'd tell them when I find something I'll look for you. They don't seem to like it when you keep the upper hand but I figure it's my money lol. Now I've really got to shopping and get some food and goodies.

However, I have no doubts that you'll be more then able to hold your own with those slick salespeople. Congrats on the job and welcome to Alaska!

Talk to your employer...maybe someone there has some knowledge and can go with you to help out or just provide some moral support...

Just remember that the internet and Carfax are your friends. If you're buying a used car, ask to see the Carfax report. If they don't have it, get the VIN #, and look it up yourself. It won't necessarily have all the history on the car, but when my son signed up for a month, it did eliminate several choices. Also, use edmunds.com when pricing. Kelly Blue Book tends to inflate the selling price, so many places will quote you their price. Many dealers use NADA as the official price book and many libraries carry the book. I just noticed NADA now has a consumer site, so you can look up prices there. They also recommend Autocheck instead of Carfax and it looks to be a better deal.

Shoot, I forgot to change it. Apparently you can't sign up for a month anymore. My son did it about 2 years ago and now I see you can sign up for 5 reports. Check out the one shown on the NADA site. It looks to be a better deal.

NADA produces the blue book (which is actually yellow in color), that dealers and insurance adjusters pull out when valuing your car.
