Kinda depends on what your gas mileage is and the price of gas at the time. When my wife and I came up in 2008 the gas prices were at the all time high and our jeep got about 20MPG. We spend about $500 in gas alone plus food and one night in Muncho Lake for $180. So easily $800-$1k one way.

Thanks man, I get a little bit better gas mileage, and I'm only one person, so I should cost a little less, especially since I won't be using a hotel, but know people on the way.

Do you know anyone in Fort Nelson? I'd like to find someplace to stay rather then in their overpriced hotels.

I'll have to find it. But it's 5000 rounds. They used to restrict hollow point ammuntion but it looks like they took that out.

Thanks. I looked but couldn't find the amount you could carry. We are going to bring back with us 2 firearms and some ammo. But didn't know how much we could carry. I haven't messed with firearms at the border so I am hoping it will be no huge deal. I found the form for declaring them. I guess if worse comes to worse we will find a PO and ship the firearms.

Well, it is official. We're headed to Tampa in July of this year. Looks like we're going to be driving a 26' UHaul with a minivan being towed behind it. This is going to be a grueling trip but is far less expensive than using ABF and driving the van or using ABF and Shipping the car and flying. Planning on using the van as our 'tent'. We'll throw an air mattress in the back and sleep there at night (done this on quick fishing trips, its pretty comfy). I figure that will save us a bunch of cash and allow me to be close to all my worldly belongings in the uhaul. We'll have our dogs with us, so they will definately alert us if someone tries to cut the lock and open the door to our moving truck. Planning on using a cooler for food (we tent camp all the time) to save time from stopping and eating. We will stop for one meal each day though, for R&R and warm food.

My wife and I will be taking turns driving and have done lots of road trips with 18+ hours driving on each leg. I would like the opinions of those that are familiar with driving down to the states. This is my intended trip plan, do you think its doable without going insane? (Driving time based on Mapquest results. Are these realistic?)

Day 1: Anchorage to Whitehorse (13hr 59Min) <Sleep in Van>
Day 2: Whitehorse to Fort St. John (15hr 15min) <Sleep in Van>
Day 3: Fort St. John to Edmonton (7hr 8min) <Hotel>
Day 4: Rest Day in Edmonton, check out the mall (wife insists) <Hotel>
Day 5: Edmonton to Grand Forks, ND (15hr 54min) <Sleep in Van>
Day 6: Grand Forks, ND to Hannibal, MO (11hr 39min) <Sleep in Van>
Day 7: Hannibal, MO to Perry, GA (12hr 30min) <Sleep in Van>
Day 8: Perry, GA to Tampa, FL (5hr 23min) <Hotel>

Sounds pretty close. The wife and I drove from Minot N.D to Anchorage in 5 days then 1 day to Southern IN. It was some long days of driving but was doable. Next year we are taking 9 days to make the return tip to IN heading through Yellowstone then Mt Rushmore. Keep in mind though those times from Mapquest are straight driving within the posted speed limits. So depending on how many stops you make and for how long, those times will be increased. Figure at least 6 hrs of sleep so those 15 hour days plus 6 hours sleep that only leaves 3 hours for stops etc. But if you can trade off driving that will help tremendously.
