Hey all, I haven't posted in a while but I accepted a job on the slope. So I will be moving back to Alaska on the 25th of this month. I am looking forward to finally getting back up there. I will fly up there at first then in a month or so fly back to Cali and drive up my Jeep and haul some stuff with me. I will be staying at a friends place in Anchorage until I get set up. I am still looking at land in Glen Allen and Tok still, but might expand my search a little south. So this should speed up the land purchase process.

See you guys up there,
James

There's a place in Tok on SurvivalRealty.com that looks pretty nice:

Here is your chance to enjoy the solitude of rural Alaska in Tok, AK. A 670 s.f. log cabin on 3 acres with a 960 s.f. shop/garage.

This is one of the last truly free areas of the United States. Resident of this area do not pay an kind of state or local income tax (other than federal), sales tax, or property tax. There is no municipal government, so there are no ordinances, building codes, or zoning restrictions. You are truly free do so and live how you choose. People here are very independent and freedom loving.

Price
$110,000

Barkingowl that is exactly why I want to move there. I did some research and found Tok to be exactlly as you described. After living here in California for the last few years I am ready to get my freedom back. I am looking at 5 acres within a 1/4 mile of the road. I will have the option to purchase another 10 acres. I want to purchase raw land by paying cash for it, then build my cabin and shop with cash. I don't want to be paying anyone for anything....except electricy and internet. But the electricy I will hopefully get off of also.

Your freedom is going to cost you...in degrees. I and a friend were just talking about Tok yesterday. I like Tok, I even like it in the winter. But he was relating a story to me about driving to Tok at -60 and changing a fan belt by the side of the road. Anyone that tells you that after it gets below -30 there is no difference has just not experienced -60.

You will experience -60 in Tok.

James,
Good luck with the property search and the move. Thank you for the information ya sent as well. As for what kind of inspection I do....the company named Acuren listed in the page you sent me is the type of inspection I do. I'll be calling them shortly.

Thanks Jersey. Check out the CD Survival section & look for a thread about ultimate survival homes. There are some former missile silos listed.
