Jobs in the Capital District (New York, Albany: house, job market, college)

I'm beginning to weigh a possible move to the Capital District, most likely Albany, sometime in the new year. I would be moving up from NYC, and will not be driving. How does the job market look, with the state of the economy? Will it be easy to find employers/jobs located on bus lines? Thanks!

You can get to downtown employers and the State office campus via bus very easily from most parts of Albany and some of Colonie.

The job market in the Albany area will depend on the line of work you do.

I just moved to a town just outside of albany from nyc and i drive but my husband does not..as far as transportation, it seems like if you live directly in albany or even schnectady the buses run pretty well and often but hardly at all in alot of the towns just outside..And if u call the # for CDTA they basically dont know what they're talking about..2 diffrent operators told me there were absolutely no bus service where i live but when I researched it on the cdta website, they do have a few buses a day..And right in front of my house too! As far as jobs, alot of them want you to have a valid drivers license but my husband found work within 2 weeks of moving here..hope this helps you out..

Thanks for the replies - I'd forgotten all about this thread until I saw it here again! I never made it to the Capital District. I headed up to Burlington, Vermont and moved in with a couple of college friends in February '09. Enjoyed it at first, needed the action of New York City again, and made it back to NYC that following September. I never did get a driver's license, though...
