I have heard that some of the houses in Schenectady are belonged to Guilderland school district. The houses in Schenectady seems to be cheaper compared to Guilderland. Is Schenectady safe? We have a six years old so we are looking for a neighborhood with good schools and also safe. Is Schenectady something we should consider?
I believe there are houses along Carmen Road in Guilderland that have a 'Schenectady' address, however, they are more likely valued by their respective school district, rather than their physical address.
Not sure what area of Schenectady you are referring to regarding safety. You'll know whether an area is safe just by driving through it, perception is generally reality around here.
Schenectady encompasses a multitude of school districts. For the most part, the value of any particular home will be based on which school district that property is located in. Just compare a home located in Niskayuna school district and a comparable home in Schenectady school district and you'll understand.
I accidentally drove through the Hamilton Hill section of Schenectady today. Never again. It was terrifying and depressing at the same time. How do people live like that?

There's a difference between being poor and being trashy. Drive down East Main in Amsterdam. That's poor. Good people, just down on their luck. Drive around Hamilton Hill. You get angry stares from the oddest people glaring at you from their porches like you did something wrong by driving down their road. You can be poor and friendly, or you can be poor and a dirtbag, which is what you'd find in Hamilton Hill.

Yeah, you're right, if I was poor I would totally walk around with a smile on my face all the time!
Niskayuna is a municipal township, not a hamlet with no government.
