About to take a position that will require a daily commute from the Wilton area to the Albany hospitals (which all seem to be located near each other). I leave early, so the outbound commute isn't anything (I lived in LA for my whole life, so I know traffic and that's not it), but is there an alternate route to bypass the snarls from exit 1 to about exit 9?

Even Waze isn't too helpful in this regard.. Or just suck it up and get a lot of books on mp3?

Route 9 North to 236 to Route 4 to Route 29

If you're from LA, this area is a piece of cake.

Heh, I thought so but lately on my bi-weekly albany trips for interviews it seems there's an accident every day on the northway. It's taking 40 minutes to get from exit 1 to exit 7. Probably just my bad luck. I'll check google maps on that route you mentioned, thanks!

I used to travel West LA to calabasas (101/405 yikes!) where you could literally get out of your car and walk around while waiting for something to move.. but I don't want that anymore!

I used to live in Wilton and commute to Menands. You could either get off the Northway at exit 8A and take Grooms Road to Middletown Road to Route 32 South in Waterford and take 787 to Albany or you could get off at exit 8, go to Route 9 South and cross the Crescent Bridge and take Crescent Road from Route 9 into Cohoes and onto 787. I hated the Twin Bridges, can you tell?

LOL they really do kinda suck! I'm an early bird so I have no problems around the bridges in the AM. In the PM the traffic is solid from exit 1 all the way past the bridges - I am not sure if 787 would be an improvement with all the recent construction. I take 787 when I drop my husband off in rensselaer and e-gads, lots of traffic from there to the end, where I get off. I appreciate the suggestion and will plug that into the calculation as well.

I also forgot that when I did that it was so long ago that Alternate 7 wasn't even connecting 787 to 87 yet

It's summer so there are a lot of travelers on the northway.
