So I got offered a great job opportunity in Schenectady Area, unfortunately. I stayed at a hotel a day prior before my interview and the morning as I'm heading in to the interview my car window was smashed during the night even though my car had nothing in it. Alas, I still went to the interview and it went great but I'm never living in this crap hole called Schenectady after this situation what a welcome, done with my rant. my friend tells me Saratoga springs is safe and far enough to avoid the issues from Schenectady could someone suggest me what areas are good areas in Saratoga springs? Guilderland is too depressing and the apartments are not good either so that place does not work.

Saratoga Springs is a pretty good 30-40 minute drive from Schenectady. So, that may be a bit too far.
Guilderland and depressing must be in relation to it being a suburb, but a very nice suburb. So, I'm curious as to what that is referring to.
Anyway, if you are working in Schenectady, I'd say to look into Scotia across the Mohawk River from Downtown Schenectady or parts of (Old) Niskayuna near the Upper Union Area for a short commute and with access to walkability. happened in the back of Hilton double tree, which I was surprised cause there was security patrol, I honestly did not have time nor interest to report anything mainly because I did not want to be late to the interview, but I'll definately be more conscious where I leave my car in this part of the capital district.
Reason why I found Guilderland depression mainly is because the apartment's aren't good and after driving around there is no real walking or "center area" like Saratoga Springs or places like Oneonta have. it just feels like a highway town with houses sprouting on side roads.

I don’t think that the incident is necessarily indicative of all of Schenectady or that area of the metro, as it is like any area with a range of neighborhoods.
In Guilderland, it is a typical suburb, with the village of Altamont being the only real area with walkability. With that said, it sounds more like a matter of not being walkable versus being “depressing”, as it is actually a generally solidly to upper middle class town.
Also, there are other places with walkability in the area that are closer than Saratoga Springs and especially Oneonta. So, I would look into the areas I mentioned previously first, as it would be a much shorter commute.
BTW-Where are you coming from, if you don’t mind me asking?

Problem with living in Saratoga and working in Schenectady or points south, is dealing with the traffic on the Northway, or on ANY southbound road in the AM and then northbound in the PM. Keep in mind, due to the proximity to Albany, you want to make sure you are heading in the opposite direction of the *where ever* to Albany commute. Living in Saratoga means you are going to be going up and down the Northway, or Route 50 or Route 9.
I'm fully with you on Schenectady being a crap hole. I grew up in Mont Pleasant in the decades before it became Little Guyana. I lived there from 1974 (birth) to 2001 and again in 2015-2016. As soon as my parents' house on Oakwood Avenue sells, I am DONE with that neighborhood. MY back window on my Jeep was busted out one night when I was over there going through some things. This was back in February.
If you are looking for apartments, Lake Shore Park in Latham is under new management, and the new owners are actually going through and completely revamping every building and every apartment. I am actually friends with the guy who was the leasing consultant there for 15 years. A sister complex to Lake Shore, Valley View was also sold recently, and he's actually going to be the LC at that complex, also in Latham, which is about 10 or so miles east of Schenectady.

How would you know? Are you a native of Schenectady with 49 years' association with that city, the way *I* am??
Even the so-called "nice" areas north of State Street aren't quite as nice as they used to be. In fact, I can't think of ANY area of Schenectady where I would live if I was given a choice.
I'm originally from Westchester county. worked in Oneonta for few years, and got some job offers in the capital district. I'll look into the areas suggested in this post like Latham or Altamont and check. just hope those apartments are in better shape than the ones I saw in Guilderland, wall to wall carpet is not the way not in 2023. You can clearly see there is a huge difference in the apartments from Guilderland to the ones present in Saratoga.

Not even the Upper State Street area near Niskayuna, the Stockade, the Union Triangle or around the GE Realty Plot? I ask because I’ve been there and they looked like solid, relatively middle class areas that are well kept. I understand that things can vary/change within a city and cities may not be what people remember them as being when they grew up there, but those areas look like well regarded/solid areas you see in other NY cities.
Also, to be fair, if you read my post, I actually suggested Scotia and Niskayuna. So, I actually didn’t even suggest an area of Schenectady. Nor did I say any of the other things in terms of association.
The OP appears to want walkability. So, that was another thing I kept in mind. That means parts of the cities, villages and select communities like a Delmar or parts of Niskayuna.
Also, keep in mind if a place says Schenectady, Albany, Troy, etc. it may not necessarily be in the city proper and may be the place the zip code is associated with.

I just caught this, but I meant to say Upper Union Street, not State Street.
