What can anyone tell me about basketball in ABQ and the surrounding area?

Are there are a lot of places to play for fun?

Do any of the gyms/rec centers have basketball courts?

How are the rec leagues and when are they?

How is high school basketball in the area? (I'm currently a varsity HS assistant in Virginia and would love to find a job somewhere to coach)

Is AAU big?

Thanks I know it's kind of an obscure topic - just wondering what we've got goin' on!

Yes, b-ball is quite popular in these parts. UNM Basketball is what drives the craze. You'll find lots of parks, community centers, and local gyms offering games each day.

Yes

Yes, county leagues are held in community centers and school gyms. Sports and Wellness a local gym chain, has pick up games and leagues everyday as well.

See the answer above

It's big and getting bigger. The talent in the metro is picking up. All of the UNM men's coaches including Steve Alford have son's competing in high school right now.

Is AAU big?

Ever heard of Danny Granger???? Check out his local AAU team, they are stacked with local talent. (see link below)
