What is your nomination for the best food offered at the NM State Fair?

I went to the NM State Fair for the first time (my first year in town) Someone recommended Chile Relleno Dogs to me. I was skeptical because I don't really like hot dogs. But they are amazing! Somehow the chile and the dog combine to form this smokey flavor that is quite sophisticated and... yummy!

Any other nominations?

I don't know if they still do them, but Tom Thumb donuts.

I think we saw those there. Now I wish I'd tried them because they sounded good, but I was too busy funnel caking.

I am always in search of the perfect frito pie, and found a pretty good one at this year's fair. The chile has to be homemade (not from a can) with New Mexico red chile (obviously a personal preference...).

Check out the snack bar in the back of the Dairy Barn. It's the state fair's best kept secret. You can buy cotton candy for $1, $2, or $3. These are gigantic in size -- the size of a small pillow for $3 bucks! The $2 is large enough to share between two people. You can't beat that price anywhere else at the fair.

The Dairy barn also has inexpensive lemonade and soda -- less than half the price of anywhere else. Also, try one of their lamb burgers. They are pretty good.

Now, for the really good food, we usually eat a Navajo Taco in the Indian Village. I can't remember the name of the vendor, but I think it's the first one to the left just as you walk into the village.

Just don't the crap we did lol.

Cold, hard, far from fresh food. Thankfully the very confused lady only charged us half of what it should have cost. It was fries and burger type stuff. Close to the area where bands were playing.

Wish I saw this thread before going!!
