I'm looking to open an account locally but would like some feedback first as to the different credit unions. Things I'm looking at include auto loan rates and overdraft protection. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Credit unions average out to be better than banks here.

First and foremost for me is branch locations. I find a CU to be pretty low on my list if it's hard to get to, and I prefer ones that have multiple locations throughout town. Sure, most do "shared branching" and the CU*Anytime ATM's are pretty universal, but many times it just has to be your CU to get the task done.

New Mexico Educators FCU ranks first (particularly statewide) in terms of locations and accessibility. Sandia Laboratory, Sandia Area also do ok, depending on your needs. What you can get into may vary.

Haven't ever done a door-to-door rate comparison among CU's. The OD protection policies have all changed recently by law, so you'll be hardpressed to find a definitive guide there either.
