I know there are some up Central going east (Eubank/J.T. area). Does any one pass these regularly? Are there signs mentioning price (under $175/week) and, off-hand, do they look clean? Not limited, though, to that part of town. ANY info's appreciated!

David

I would steer clear of any motel on Central. They're bound to be older (unless it's one of the ones that just got completely rebuilt) and they border some not-so-choice neighborhoods.

For a weekly stay, there are some decent ones at I-25 & San Antonio, though they can be a bit more expensive.

I believe there's also one or two weekly motels on Menaul between University & Carlisle. Neighborhood's not bad, newer construction, but they don't look cheap either.

maps.google.com should help you find what's in those neighborhoods.

Anything advertising a weekly rate in this town is asking for trouble. You pay cheap and you better pack a gun, some bug spray and sleep in a sleeping bag in the corner. I am serious, you try to stay on Central or any of those cheapos you are going to pay. The best thing to do is stay with a national chain.

Default I need some advice about motels and what areas to check out.

My wife and I will be coming to Albuquerque at the end of May to see if the area has the feel we are looking for as a place to retire to. I could use the name of a decent (doesn't have to be fancy just clean & quiet) reasonably priced motel or hotel.

Are there areas that we should avoid and areas we should concentrate on? We would prefer not to live in a subdivision unless we can have a lot where the neighbors aren't on top of us. Our maximum price is $275k.

For your budget, you should look in the North East Heights East of San Pedro, North of Montgomery <housing wise>.

For Hotels, I would recommend Courtyard Albuquerque North. If you can find a sale, Sandia Casino and Resort is a gorgeous property. Perhaps The Homewood Suites off of I-25 and San Antonio. Both the Nativo Lodge and Drury are nice places. What are you looking to spend a night.
Here are the links to the hotels I recommend:

Sandia Casino and Resort
Sandia Resort & Casino. Hotel & Entertainment - Albuquerque, NM

Courtyard Albuquerque North
Courtyard Albuquerque: Rooms designed for business travelers in Albuquerque

Drury:
Drury Inn & Suites Albuquerque, New Mexico

Nativo Lodge:
Nativo Lodge: A Culturally distinct Hotel in Albuquerque New Mexico

Hotel Albuquerque
Culturally Distinct Albuquerque Hotel: Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town is the premier Hotel in Albuquerque NM

Both Marriotts would be splendid

Check San Antonio and I-25
-Good Places around that area-

Norm - My wife, daughter and I stayed at this B&B when we first moved here:

Casas de Suenos Walking distance to Old Town.

Abqsunport's recommendations are good too.

For home searches, I usually use this website:

ABQREALTORS.com - Official site of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Board of REALTORS®

For the NE Heights [where we live] try using zip 87111, 87110. I think 87106 is near UNM. I'm not familiar with west side zip's.

Good luck to you and enjoy your visit.

Default Areas to Check Out

Hi, Norm,
Another area to check out is the Northwest Heights/Paradise Hills. Some of the areas are close to the Petroglyths, and with your budget, you can find a lot of nice homes with some room around them. 87114 and 87120 pretty much cover these 2 areas.
Also, 87106 is the UNM area, but prices down there, especially near the university, may be higher than you want to spend. Still, it's nice area, close to Nob Hill and the campus
Good luck!
