I don't run into goat-heads very often and then only if I go off the main trail or street and strike out across the bush. I've had them go clear through tough rubber soles. Seems like there are at least a couple varieties...thorny ones and needle ones. Needles are long enough to go through shoe soles. Both hurt like hell.

I've seen a couple of those nasty centipedes lately. In my area (north Rio Rancho) the grasshopper infestation is slacking off. Is that what others are seeing?

That's odd, you sure they are goat heads? I've never had a problem with goat heads myself, but my dog sure has.

Those needle thingys might be from cholla cactus. People called them goatheads when I asked but looking at a cholla, they resemble the needle clusters and behave like a goathead when they are on the ground with spines pointing up. I've had to use a pliers to get them out of my shoes.
