Hi-
I'm about to join the 21st century with the purchase of the new iPad air. I have to choose a service provider when I buy, and while Verizon is the way to go in the midwest (where I'm from currently), I am wondering if that is also true of the areas of New Mexico I've listed in the title? (I travel often to New Mexico and am hoping to relocate to the area someday.)
Any opinions on cell service in ABQ/Bernalillo/Placitas, Santa Fe/Eldorado, East Mountains, Jemez Springs?
Given you're talking about an iPad, you primarily are interested in data links. ABQ and SF are fine for that. East Mountains...depends where specifically. In my experience Verizon data speeds there range from mediocre to OK. Jemez Springs just plain sucks for Verizon data. You're in a deep canyon. At best I've gotten a weak Edge signal so speed is terrible. This is for Verizon. I don't know how ATT data is at Jemez.
It is general consensus that Verizon is the best in terms of coverage, although AT&T and T-Mobile are also good. Avoid Sprint; their coverage in New Mexico is spotty, and they are the only major carrier who doesn't currently have LTE coverage in NM.
Thanks everyone! Since Verizon is best in Wisconsin and is getting positive feedback here, I think that makes the most sense for me. Since I still haven't made it to the Apple store, I've decided to wait the extra week or so and see if they end up offering any discounts on black Friday. Fingers crossed!
Do NOT go with Sprint. I have Sprint and cannot get a data signal where I live (Menaul & Tramway). I had to return my iPad, the data signal at my house was slightly better than the data signal on my cell - which isn't saying much as there is no data signal to the cell. Since I couldn't use the iPad for internet work at home, why keep it? The wireless coverage goes in and out in town as well.
