"Shooting, homicide rates soar from coast to coast"
"Shooting incidents in Philadelphia are up 57% from last year, the station reported, citing police records. Homicides, at 201 as of Monday, were up 24%.
In Milwaukee, homicides have jumped 95% -- to 82 -- so far this year, according to police.
In the first week of June alone, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that homicides increased 250% compared to the previous week." etc. etc.
Murders and other violent crimes tend to rise in the summer*, closely correlated with heat waves.
Combine that with people acting on grudges, facilitated with the general elevated levels of mayhem in the current social climate, and you have a real phenomenon.
35 Federal agents are on the way. Too bad it's not 3500.
Albuquerque needs to get a handle on its crime problem, but 35 federal agents is big government federal overeach on New Mexico's status as an independant state.
I wonder how radical militias like the New Mexico Civil Guard, who justify their existence and an unifringed 2A right to bear arms against a tyrannical federal government, feel about this...
3500 federal agents would be a dissoultion of New Mexico as an independant state. We would be a territory under martial law at that point.
The key to feeling safe and being safe is to pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware, be smart and try to avoid unsafe situations if you can. But you can't walk around in fear your entire life, because that is no life at all.
Old post, but I'm having a slow night and decided to read this thread from the beginning. What this guy says is actually not something most people want to do imo. These "crime alarmists" seem to want to be able to walk around without paying attention to their surroundings in a lackdaisaical fashion.
I imagine they want to do park their car anywhere without thinking twice, wear whatever clothes or jewelry that they want, and generally "not have to" pay attention. Seems like a weird desire, but I can understand where they're coming from. Just not very realistic. Seems really black white. Either they'll feel extremely safe, or unsure and fearful of the unknown. That's why why they come on here attempting to ease their fears.
It doesn't help that they're met with people like them, that only serve to amplify the fear. It doesn't matter that someone like you comes in and advises to simply practice common sense. It likely falls on deaf ears.

There have been many opinions, by others....
For the record we have lived in New Mexico for the past 20+ years. We stayed for various reasons.
We also have spent time in Arizona, California, New York and several other states and a few years overseas in Korea, Japan, Germany...
Please stop living in fear. My keys were stolen once at Sandia HS, but my scooter was stolen from my home in Denver. (Yamaha XMAX).
This reminds me of a guy a few years back who had a bicycle worth $10k stolen from his garage. Supposedly it was not visible from the street.
