Most blood collection centers are in the unsavory areas of town. You need to be vigilant in any part of the city, especially being a single woman.

There's one just south of UNM on Yale Boulevard called (I believe) the Yale Plasma Center...some posters may have misgivings about the neighborhood immediately surrounding it (it has its seedy bits but also its very nice streets) but that area's within a mile or so of most of the central city's nicest neighborhoods, as well as many apartment buildings and rentals catering to UNM students.

My daughter rents off Louisiana south of Paseo. She's never really had any bad things to say about the place. Every time I visit her it seems the people are just average folks and a plus is that a few cops rent there as well. Can't tell you much about the costs though.
