I recently visited Albuquerque and Santa Fe -- was surprised to find out that I really liked Albuquerque (have to put up with too many year round Tourists in Santa Fe).

The area I liked the best were then neighborhoods near the University of New Mexico. Does anyone know anything about these neighborhoods?

I'm single and near retirement age, so also wonder about cost of living, crime etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well these areas do tend to have a little bit of crime. Crime isn't so much in the violence sector as it is with Vandalism and such. However, you may want to take a look at other areas as well. The Nob Hill Area is very trendy as well (a few blocks east), and downtown is being revitalized (a few blocks west). There are some other fun parts of town as well. The ABQ Uptown area would not be a bad place to live. And for a little less interesting area/ safer, you may consider looking into certain areas of the North East Heights. Maybe somewhere around Wyoming and Paseo/ Barstow and Paseo. I wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Look to talk to Mortimer and ABQConvict, they would know quite a bit about the UNM Area.
