Hello. I know it sounds like a weird request, but I'm looking for an apartment complex where there is no grass mowing or leaf blowing. I have hyperacusis, and these sounds are really painful. My current complex mows and blows leaves every Wednesday, all day, whether there's any need for it or not. That means I'm stuck in my apartment with earmuffs on all day. It's miserable. So my lease is up soon and I'm looking for a place where I won't have to deal with this. The part of town isn't that important, although I'd like to live somewhere relatively safe (as in, not downtown or similar). Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Sounds like you want a house or a casita that's no-frills, and has low-maintenance landscaping.

Recommend you check craigslist, and in particular, look to outlying communities, where scrub or forest or whatever was there before the dwelling structure was built is what surrounds it.

I have that medical problem myself, although probably not to the extent that you have. Mine is part of my tinnitus. Keeping a box fan going in the room where I'm at helps. Leaf blowers can be very loud, although most people seem to simply tune them out. Large mowers and leaf blowers terrorize people like us, but thank your lucky stars it only happens one day a week and not late at night. You might want to consider this when you think about moving, because you never know how noise will play out in a new place (take it from someone who has had to move multiple times due to my problem).

My advice would be to get out of your place when this is going on. One day a week is doable. Find a place to volunteer (hospital, soup kitchen, etc) to get you away, and accomplish something positive from this negative. Might be a good opportunity to take some classes at UNM or other places.

I already volunteer at the animal shelter, but they don't open until 10am: an hour after the mowing & leaf blowing starts. I'm already going to CNM too, but I don't have the stamina to be in classes all day.

Sorry I can't help, but maybe some noise cancelling headphones playing something that wont bother you.

Here are some that are good but not too expensive.

Thanks, but I already wear shooting-grade earmuffs ("noise-cancelling" headphones have never done anything for me).

If anyone is interested, or can give me any input; these are the places I'm looking at that don't seem to have grass (from what I can see in their photo galleries):

The Laurels (1311 Louisiana Blvd NE)
Desert Creek (4300 Pan American Freeway NE)
Alta Vista (4200 Spanish Bit NE)
Cloudview Terrace (13500 Skyline Rd Ne)
Casa de Warren (1200 Louisiana NE)
Chelsea Village (7100 Natalie Ave NE)
Wyoming Place (5222 Wyoming Blvd NE)

And also these few, which do seem to have some grass, but I like them enough otherwise that I'm willing to check them out and see what the situation is:
Aztec Village (4321 Montgomery Blvd NE)
Candlewood Village (12050 Candelaria Rd NE)
Bella Vista (760 Juan Tabo Blvd NE)

I know everyone says "Just go look through the threads on here and you'll find all you need to know!", but I have searched and not found much on any of these places. So if anyone has experience with any of these apartment complexes, I'd be grateful for your thoughts.
